a new look for a new era of civil rights action
You may have noticed the NSWCCL website has
undergone a substantial makeover. It’s part of our determined effort
to bring civil liberties issues to the fore at a time when the federal government
wants to both introduce and
hide draconian legislation at the same time.
With our basic rights coming under increasing fire in a climate unseen since
the Communist witch-hunts of the fifties, there has understandably been broad
interest in the activities of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties.
We in turn recognise the need to keep citizens and interested parties informed
of the full import of the government’s new and proposed laws, and to
provide the means to lawfully challenge those laws when it is clear basic civil
rights will or could be violated.
For these reasons NSWCCL has recently undertaken an overhaul of our communications
materials. In addition to a new website (with further changes to be introduced
over coming months), we have new brochures, a new member journal and new livery.
And that’s just the beginning. You’ll notice many other changes
to the NSWCCL in the new year.
One of the best ways you can help defend our civil rights is to become
a NSWCCL member. NSWCCL members not only provide much-needed financial support,
but have the opportunity to join active committees addressing various civil
rights issues, and to vote at the Annual General Meeting. You will also receive
event invitations and the member journal Civil
Liberty, and be kept informed
of civil liberties activities in the community.
