ICCPR
Shadow Report
Australia’s Fifth
Report under the International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was sent
to the United Nations on 25 July 2007 (two years late).
The "Common Core Document" released by Australia "incorporates
Australia's Fifth Report under the ICCPR". The government
called for public comment, but only gave NGOs about 6 weeks
(over the Christmas period) to respond.
In December 2008, the NSW Council for Civil Liberties sent a ‘Shadow Report’ to the UN Human
Rights Committee. The UN Committee meets in New York City in March 2009 to consider the official report and any shadow reports (including CCL's).
