ICCPR
Shadow Report
Australia’s Fifth
Report under the International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was sent
to the United Nations on 25 July 2007 (two years late).
The "Common Core Document" released by Australia "incorporates
Australia's Fifth Report under the ICCPR". The government
called for public comment, but only gave NGOs about 6 weeks
(over the Christmas period) to respond.
CCL is preparing a response to the government's 'core
document'. That response will form the basis for CCL's
Shadow Report
to the United Nations' Human
Rights Committee. A Shadow
Report can be sent to the UN by NGOs to offer an alternative
view of civil and political rights
in Australia.
In preparation for drafting the Shadow Report, CCL volunteers
have prepared the following background papers, which will
be available here as they are finished:
- ATSI issues
- Migration issues
- Terrorism Laws
- Privacy in Australia
