A galaxy poll conducted in August 2007 for the Medical Association for the Prevention of War and hosted by the NSW Council for Civil Liberties has found that the majority (52%) of Australians agree that George Bush is the worst US president in history.

The poll asked a sample of 1,100 respondents distributed throughout Australia whether they agreed with the recent description by former US President Carter of Bush as “the worst US president in history’.

The full poll results can be obtained from the NSWCCL website by using the link below:

NSWCCL President Cameron Murphy said,

“As Australians we still believe strongly in the US alliance but most of us think that it would be better served without President Bush.”

“This result proves what we have suspected for a long time…that most Australians believe that Bush is the worst president ever.”

“We need to recognize that there will be many thousands of Australians peacefully protesting against Bush during APEC and they are in the majority.”

“Many Australians will take the opportunity presented by APEC to tell president bush directly what they think of his record and his policies on climate change, Iraq and many other issues.”

Dr Robert Marr, spokesman of the Medical Association for the Prevention of War said,

"The latest Galaxy Poll reveals that the majority of Australians agree with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, that George Bush is the worst U.S. President in history".

"It is not Anti American to be Anti George Bush. It is a shame the PM Mr. Howard's subservience in following Bush into the Iraq War has increased the risk of terrorism for all Australians. As a result of this increased risk of terrorism, Sydney and its beautiful Icons like the Opera House are walled in, like a Prison, for Apec"

"According to the latest Lowey Institute Poll, 57% of Australians believe Australia should no longer have any Military involvement in Iraq"

"As Doctors we call on Mr. Howard to show some real courage and represent the majority of Australians and tell George Bush that Australian Troops will be withdrawn from Iraq"
