The New South Wales Council for Civil Liberties welcomes the initiative of New Matilda to prepare and consult on a Human Rights Act for all Australians.

New Matilda is set to launch a draft Human Rights Act for all Australians on Wednesday 5 October 2005 at 6:15pm at Sydney Town Hall. Speakers will include former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser and Mr Greg Combet, Secretary of the ACTU. Seats are limited, so booking is essential.

New Matilda plans to launch the Human Rights Act in other capital cities soon. After a period of community consultation, the plan is to encourage federal parliamentarians to pass the Act into law.

The New South Wales Council for Civil Liberties has long been an advocate of a Bill of Rights for all Australians. The Council welcomes New Matilda's initiative and looks forward to supporting New Matilda in its efforts to ensure that the rights of everyone in Australia are guaranteed and protected by the law.

For more information and to reserve a seat at the Sydney launch, visit New Matilda's website: www.newmatilda.com/humanrightsact.
