The Right to Silence

Death Penalty

CCL's policy is total opposition to the death penalty
under all circumstances in all countries.

In Australia...

By 1985, the death penalty had been abolished throughout Australia.

Australia is opposed to the death penalty. In 1990, Australia ratified the anti-death penalty treaty called the Second Optional Protocol. In 2007, Australia joined with the majoirty of the world's countries at the United Nations' General Assembly to vote for a global moratorium on the death penalty.

However, the Australian States can still re-introduce the death penalty and CCL is working hard to ensure that the death penalty will not be reintroduced by the States. If you want to help, click here to find out what you can do to help.
